Greetings from Wat Patchatikaram Primary School

Here at Patchatikaram-school are many activities for the children.

A lot of these activities are based on morality and good behavior such as paying respect to ones parents, teachers and Buddhism as a whole.

One of these activities is daily meditation, before the school-day begins.

The children are sitting in meditation a couple of minutes every day, so that their minds attain better concentration. On a weekly base they visit the temple, also for meditation as well as paying respect to the monks and making merit by giving food and other necessities for their daily life. During the rainy season there is a big Buddhist festival called “Khao Pansa” in which the children are making merit in the temple, giving the monks big candles, sometimes over one meter high.

Another important day in a school year is “Teachers day” in which the children are paying respect to the teachers for sharing their knowledge with them. ”Teachers day” is in the month of June.

And of course there is ”Childrens day”. On this day there are activities such as sport and performances on stage. On “Mothers day” they pay respect to their mother and the “Mother” of the nation, queen Sirikit, which is celebrated on the 12th of August. The king’s birthday is on the 5th of December and is celebrated all over the nation.

Handicraft is also practiced in which sometimes the locals come to school to teach the local arts to the kids. Crafts like making brooms and weaving are some of those activities. And then there is music, like practicing playing the flute, etc…

Sports activities are numerous, like table-tennis, soccer and basketball, to name a few. Besides these things there is scouting at school, which is all over Thailand as well. Scouting is practiced once a week in order to let the children learn about nature as well as working in groups.

Thais also love kites, so yes there is an annual kite festival in which kites of all shapes and sizes are displayed in the sky. The kites are called “Chula” in Thai.

Last but not least, Patchatikaram Primary School cares, besides all these annual events, about hygiene and healthcare for the children.

They care a lot about hygiene and proper behavior, like washing the hands before eating and brushing the teeth, etc…

This short introduction about how Patchatikaram Primary School functions in educating their children should give you a good inside view and raise your interest for volunteering and come to this beautiful school. We will be happy to receive you as a volunteer so that the children have the opportunity to learn English.

Thank you.
